Monthly Choral Evensong
Our monthly Choral Evensongs include an organ prelude at 4:45 p.m. They will offer music by 19th century composer Felix Mendelssohn (composer of the wedding march). The service, at 5 p.m., is by Murrill in E, with responses by Ian Quinn and Bruce Neswick's anthem, "Magna et mirabilia." Herbert H.J. Murrill (1909-1952) was an English musician, composer and organist. He wrote opera, film scores, chamber music, and vocal works. He also composed two cello concertos, of which the second, The Song of the Birds (1951), written for and dedicated to Pablo Casals and quoting the popular Catalan song of the same name, has been called his "masterpiece." His setting of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in E major (published in 1947) are among his most frequently performed works. The Cathedral Chamber Choir will sing. Dwight Thomas is director and organist. A freewill offering will be taken.
