On March 7, Albert Farr will be our guest, speaking on Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad, which just won the National Book Award for fiction and is a New York Times best-seller and an NPR "best book of the year." Professor Farr, chair of the Communications Department at St. Petersburg College, has been a popular speaker in the past and we're delighted to welcome him back. The New York Times calls The Underground Railroad a "tour de force" that chronicles a young slave's adventures as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. Amazon.com calls it "a kinetic adventure tale of one woman’s ferocious will to escape the horrors of bondage and a shattering, powerful meditation on the history we all share."
Book talks are from noon to 1 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month. Lunch is available ($5), or feel free to bring your own.
